Roasted out back
Our 5-kilo drum roaster runs three mornings a week. Beans go from green to your cup inside a fortnight — never a day over.
Alberta Arts District · Portland, OR
We roast in small batches over the back counter, pull espresso on a lever machine, and bake the morning's pastries before the sun clears the Cascades. Pull up a chair — the oak table seats strangers and friends alike.

Why Ember & Oak
Our 5-kilo drum roaster runs three mornings a week. Beans go from green to your cup inside a fortnight — never a day over.
Laminated croissants, sourdough morning buns, and gluten-free banana bread — all made here, never frozen, gone by afternoon.
Real mugs, fast Wi-Fi, outlets at every seat, and a 12-foot oak community table. Stay for one cup or the whole afternoon.
Our Story
Ember & Oak began in 2016 when Mara and Deacon Flores hauled a secondhand drum roaster into a drafty storefront on NE Alberta. The ember is the roast; the oak is the long table Deacon built from a felled tree on his grandparents' farm in the Willamette Valley.
Nine years on, that table still anchors the room. We buy green coffee direct from growers we visit each harvest, roast it a few feet from where you'll drink it, and bake everything in the little kitchen out back. No syrupy shortcuts, no second location — just one corner café doing the whole thing properly.
Kind Words
★★★★★"The cortado is the best in Portland, full stop. And they actually remember my order. This is my second living room."
★★★★★"I came for the almond croissant and stayed four hours writing. Fast Wi-Fi, no side-eye for the long stay. Rare and wonderful."
★★★★★"You can taste that the beans are fresh. I buy a bag every week and my pour-overs at home finally taste like theirs."
